Paul Koontz attended the University of Colorado, graduating in 2010. Paul then graduated the Southern Illinois School of Law in 2014 with a JD.

Paul was licensed by the Illinois State Bar in November of 2014. He began his legal career in the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office in Rockford, Illinois.

After the State’s Attorney’s Office. Paul began practicing in criminal defense. Paul has also represented clients in federal court.

While a prosecutor, Paul witnessed first hand the “the long arm of the law” which rarely takes into account a defendant’s situation and the consequences that follow. This is why he has decided to focus on criminal defense, to ensure that every client is not a notch for the prosecutor, as no two stories are the same. 

He fundamentally believes that people are good and that a moment should not define the entirety of a life
